(France) ca. 1720.
7 loose leaves [ca. 34 x 22 cm]. With 10 ink drawings, partly with some coloring. With a list (table of contents?) at the end of the manuscript, entitled Primage de Constantinople. Very interesting early 18th century manuscript on how to build a sundial in the city of La Ciotat, in Southern France, Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur. It explains the process of building the sundial through precise instructions and detailed drawings. A sundial is an early horological device that tells the time by the movements of the sun's light on a flat surface during the day. The drawings detail the look of the sundial itself, with the sun at its center and the markings for the hours of the day. It includes designs and instructions for both a horizontal and vertical sundial and some further particular designs. The author of the manuscript is most likely from the city La Ciotat, where he made the measurements necessary for the design of the sundials. With a small ink corrosion on one of the sheets that affects 2 other sheets as well, with old binding holes, otherwise in very good condition. ---- 7 Bl.
