I have here for sale a rare group of 11 volumes of a 12-volume set of A SYSTEM OF GEOGRAPHY, Popular and Scientific; or a Physical, Politcal and Statistical Account of the World and its Various Divisions by James Bell.  It was published between 1847 and 1848 and is divided into 6 volumes, each with two parts.  (Lacking Vol II Part II).  Each volume has a number of plates and maps at the start and covers different parts of the world.  The plates and fold-out maps are arranged as follows:

Vol I Part I has 2 plates and 1 map of the West Indies

Vol I Part II has a fold-out plate showing the principal heights of mountains of the world, plus 3 maps of Brazil, Prussia and Denmark

Vol II Part I has 1 plate of the Tiber with Rome in the background, plus 3 maps of Southern Africa and Germany North and South.

Vol III Part I has 2 plates of Jerusalem and London, plus 2 maps of Hindoostan and Colombia

Vol III Part II has 2 plates of Edinburgh and Dublin, plus 4 maps of China, Africa, South America, and Mexico & Guatemala

Vol IV Part I has 2 plates of Belfast and Dundee, plus 3 maps of Spain & Portugal, the Netherlands, and Egypt

Vol IV Part II has 1 plates of Antioch in Syria, plus 4 maps of Asia, Europe, Russia in Europe, and Scotland

Vol V Part I has 1 plate of Ephesus in Turkey, plus 3 maps of Russia in Europe (south part), Austrian Empire, and Turkey (front board and spine covering detached from binding block)

Vol V Part II has 2 plates of Smyrna and Dunluce Castle, plus a plate with maps of six of the principal cities in the United States, plus a map of Asia Minor

Vol VI Part I has 2 plates of Sidon and Lower Egypt, plus 5 maps of Russia in Asia, Persia, Pacific Ocean, East India Islands and a Chart of the World based on Mercator's Projection.

Vol VI Part II has 3 plates of The Great Wall of China, Map of the Coast and Environs of Alexandria, and Rhodes, plus 4 maps of the World as known to the Ancients, The Countries of the Ancient World, Syria North and South Parts.

All bound in brown faded cloth with gilt illustration to centre of front boards.  Fading to spines, wear to edges with some cloth loosening, and some evidence of damp staining but only externally, the pages, maps and plates are all in very good condition.  Some loose binding on some but generally in very good condition as a set.  Pagination is continuous but each volume across each pair of volumes, so Vol I Parts I and II together has 624 pages; Vol II Parts I has 320 pages; Vol III Parts I and II has 560 pages; Vol IV Parts I and II has 645 pages, Vol V Parts I and II has 566 pages, Vol VI Parts I and II 553 pages.  24 x 15 cm.
