The weights are made in the Nurenburg manner, which means that each weight weighs exactly the same as the rest of the weights which sit inside it. Thus a matched pair of weights is always at hand. This (when you think about it) is no mean engineering achievement for over 200 years ago! The outer case measures approx 1 3/4 inches (45mm) tall by 2 1/2 inches (65mm) in diameter and the weights are made from turned bronze. The larger weights marked in TROY OUNCES XVI (16 oz) VIII (8oz) IIII (4 oz) II (2 oz) along with various proof marks (see photos) In total the set weighs 32 TROY OUNCES (see photos for marks).
